This playful class will ask your inner critic to take a hike. Thus unweighted, we will embark together into an imaginative evening. Expect drawing and writing activities, some collaborative, inspired by the lessons of Lynda Barry, cartoonist, writer, and teacher. Through these activities, we’ll create characters and discover their stories. Lynda Barry believes that there’s a way of being that allows us to draw in a spontaneous way, with lines that are alive. Whether you’re a trained artist, or you last drew in third grade, you can do this. You’ll leave class with ideas for how to start when you don’t know what to draw, as well as journaling prompts to help you really see and hear–because stories live all around us. In short, this mid-winter whimsy jump-start is meant for those interested not only in cartooning, but in creativity. Open to people ages 16 and up.
