Farmland Preservation Artists of Central Pennsylvania have opened a gallery in a third restaurant. This one is in the Federal Taphouse, 130 South Fraser St., State College.
“We are a local business,” general manager Jessica Wargo said, “and we want to support local artists. We hope our guests will not only enjoy the art, but buy some as well.”
Composed of local artists, the Farmland Preservation Artists of Central Pennsylvania formed in late 2005. The group is a joint enterprise of the Art Alliance Of Central Pennsylvania and the Centre County Farmland Trust. Its mission is to promote the preservation and appreciation of farmland through the visual arts. A percentage of each sale goes to the Centre County Farmland Trust and the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania.
The artists work in a variety of media and focus on the following goals:
- Portray the beauty of the rural landscape, local farms and the agricultural products they yield
- Highlight farm life, local food markets and economy
- Illustrate the issues facing farmers that affect our communities
- Increase support for farmland preservation through the exhibition and sale of art
- Promote the goals of the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania and the Centre County Farmland Trust
The farmland artists opened their first gallery in The Field at Toftrees in Patton Township and followed that with a gallery in the Bull Run Tap House in Lewisburg.
