In-person location to be announced with Zoom backup for bad weather days. Bring your favorite drawing materials and enjoy time with others as we observe and take inspiration from our surroundings to create mindful artworks in nature. Instructor will provide structure and guidance throughout the course. You will need a drawing board and/or easel, your own drawing materials, something to sit on, drinking water and a wide brimmed hat.
Fee: $135 members; $185 non-members, Tuesdays, 1-4:00 pm, 8 weeks, begins June 15

Painting Open Studio

Stained Glass

For beginning and advanced students. Beginners make a small project and learn the basics of copper foil and stained glass work. Call Ken about materials before the first class.

Adventures in Acrylics

The Acrylic painting class will be an open studio approach with individual one on one instruction provided “live”. New and seasoned painters are welcomed, we will review your previous work and establish a few painting goals in the 8 week long course. The history of Acrylics and foundation skills will be presented with an overview of Masterworks of Art. Students will be given a weekly Acrylic challenge during the first 5 weeks; these challenges will be shared in a class critique / discussion. Students will produce a final painting in the the remaining three weeks. Please contact instructor with any questions.

Open Studio

Oil Portraits

We will focus on painting the expressive portrait in oils. Bring in a photo of a portrait you want to paint and your questions. We’ll talk about how to work with photo reference – how to edit the light and color information in the photo so it looks more life-like and expressive. We’ll also learn about how to get a good likeness, how to capture expressions, how to create skin tones, how to paint hair, edges, texture, different lighting situations, and whatever else we have time for! In-person Workshops

An Introduction to Bookbinding: Pamphlet stitch and double-Italian long stitch

In this two session workshop you will create two hand bound, hard covered notebooks.
In session 1 you will get an overview of the materials, tools and methods used in making a handmade book. After this brief overview, we will move on to making a hardcover pamphlet stitch notebook.
In session 2, we will build on the techniques learned to make a similar hardcover book, but this time using a more involved stitching technique: the double-Italian long stitch. Once you know these bookbinding basics, you will have opened up a Pandora’s box of bookbinding possibilities!
Fee: $80 plus $8 for supplies, members; $90 plus $8 for supplies, non-members.

Small Works, Big Impact in Watercolors

Are you ready for an in-person workshop at the Art Alliance? Enjoy painting botanical watercolors in a relaxed atmosphere. This class is designed for all levels of watercolor experience. We will capture the gesture and fresh and vibrant colors of summer flowers. We will be painting from fresh flowers brought into the studio. You will work on a verity of pieces. Please bring your own watercolor supplies, also bring lunch/ snacks and something to drink. Email Lena for supplies to bring along.

Studio to Plein Air, At the Rhoneymeade Arboretum & Sculpture Garden

Discover how to see beyond the obvious within the landscape, and use expressive color to capture the essence of mood and atmosphere in sky and more. Whether you work in pastel, oil, watercolor, or acrylic, you will learn to see the depth of color and create a unique and personally expressive painting in this relaxed and upbeat studio to plein air experience. Skilled in all mediums, Susan is a seasoned studio and plein air painter who will lead you to your personal color expression in the medium of your choice. Her goal is to connect to you and inspire creativeness each day. You will learn plein air tips and tricks along with the basics of preparing for a fun and successful outdoor painting experience. We will meet each day at the Rhoneymeade Arboretum & Sculpture Garden Studio.

Zoom Pop Ups

Watercolor Flowers, May 21, 7-9pm

In this class, we will be drawing with dip pens and ink, as well as creating washes and areas of texture. Each week features new warm ups, demonstrations, and practice sessions tailored to the needs of class participants. This is a delightful medium that allows the artist to work quickly and enjoy spontaneous results.

Pen and Ink Watercolor, June 18, 7-9pm

Join us for an evening of relaxation and painting from the comfort of your home. Learn how to mix watercolor with black pen to add a bold technique to any of your watercolors. Artist Nicole Packard will lead you through the process over zoom. You will need a sheet of watercolor paper, watercolor paints (tubes or palettes at fine), paint brushes, a black pen (micron pens are best but any pen will work), and a pencil.

Watercolor Birds, June 25, 7-9pm

Learn the basics of watercolor painting while creating your own version of a colorful bird painting. No need to leave your home, artist Nicole Packard will be leading you through the process over Zoom. You will need a set of watercolor paints (tubes or palette), a paintbrush, a pencil, and a sheet of watercolor paper.
