Centre LGBT+ and Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania have come together to collaborate on an inclusive community wide art project. In searching for ways to pay tribute to the both the LGBT+ community and the local State College area community Cat Cook, Executive Director for Centre LGBT+, imagined a large-scale art project that would illustrate—during both its creation and exhibition—a greater community working toward inclusion.
The project, known as “Each Piece Belongs: Community Art for LGBT+ Inclusion,” invites community members, businesses, and organizations to purchase a “piece” that they will design and decorate. Those “pieces” will be assembled included in a larger piece that will come together in one or several larger or several large displays. Picture a large quilt with each unique piece coming together to represent LGBT+ inclusion in our community. The collaborative works of art will be proudly displayed as we celebrate Pride June 1-30, 2023.
Marie Doll, Executive Director for the Art Alliance shared, “Art is a universal language that speaks to the importance of inclusion, equality, and understanding. The Art Alliance of Central PA is proud to partner with Centre LGBT+ on ‘Every Piece Belongs: Community Art for LGBT + Inclusion.’
The pieces are open to the purchaser’s interpretation and logos may also be included, but the piece must be an overall tribute to celebrating the LGBT+ community and coming together in support.
