Students enrolled in the Drawing and Painting BFA program at Penn State are required to have a solo exhibition of their work before they graduate The Art Alliance is proud to present three of these exhibitions in our Gallery Downtown on Fraser St.

Rebecca Poarch show “All This and More” will be in the gallery February 3-8 with a reception on Friday, February 7, 5-9 pm as part of the First Friday event in downtown State College. Rebecca says “My work aims to tell stories of girlhood, love, loss, sexuality, and other physical and emotional experiences, creating a personal mythology and diacritic narrative. With a vivid color palette, I seek to create a world of bright light from darkness, or a utopia from a place of vulnerability.” Rebecca has been an intern for the Art Alliance the past two years, working as a gallery host and a graphic designer.

“Ray’s World” will be a show of the artwork of Ray Brune, February 10-15 with a reception February 14. Ray describes his work as “mostly abstract paintings of shape and color but also some imagery of everyday objects that make interesting patterns.”

Tom Rosenow’s show, “Memory and Place”will be in the gallery February 17-22 with a reception February 19, 6-8 pm.

Tom says” As a painter, my passion lies in working directly from life. Immersing myself in an environment and trying to capture the atmosphere is a challenge I love to take on and acts as a constant source of inspiration. The body of work I will show is rooted in that practice, including some done “en plein air” as well as studio work inspired by my experiences painting outside.”

The public is invited to attend the shows receptions to meet these young artists and encourage them as they enter the art world.

Gallery hours are: Mon–Sat 12–6pm; reception times vary for each artist – please look above!
