Wooly Bliss by Ann Pangborn at the SC DID office in August

August 2 @ 9:00 am 5:00 pm

thru the end of August — check DID website for hours

State College is home to many artists, local and from around the country. The Downtown State College District loves to feature artists from all places to show off their creativity. Starting July 1st, there will be a new artist showcased, Ann Seltzer Pangborn.

Pangborn graduated from Rutgers University with a masters of education and a focus in creative arts in education. Her work is inspired by nature and by the potential of art and art making to support expression and healing, both in the artist and the viewer.

The current collection that will be featured is called Wooly Bliss Felted Art. Pangborn first fell in love with fiber art twenty years ago.

She uses a variety of wool breeds such as alpaca, camel, cashmere, yak and other fibers; various types of silk, including remnant silk threads and fabric from the manufacture of saris; and silk fabric that the artist has eco-printed, and curly wool locks. By using these materials she layers the wools and fibers, adds a bit of soap and water agitation and like magic it creates a fabric. With the fabric, Pangborn creates an unpredictable masterpiece.

Pangborn hopes her work will nurture the senses and evoke a kind of re-enchantment via the natural earthy beauty of fiber; and that viewers will sense the bliss she feels when she works.

To see Wooly Bliss up close and firsthand visit the DSCID office on 127 S Fraser Street. Her work will be featured there starting July 1st, through the month of August. The art will be showcased during the DSCID First Friday event on July 5th in the office.

We hope to see you there, and you can continue to support Ann Pangborn by visiting her website or the Gallery Shop in Lemont.
