The SQUARE Show is OPEN!

SQUARES are now available for purchase! Up now through October 24! Don’t wait, they are going fast!

The show will be up through October 24th.

About the SQUARES

Every SQUARE in this fun show is only 6”x 6″ and $25 a piece. Perfect for limited wall space and indulgence!
Artist signatures are on the back, so you won’t know whose piece you bought until you buy it! All works are original and will be available for pick up or delivery when the show ends.

The SQUARE Show is annual celebration of what the Art Alliance is all about—a dedication to showing that art is for everybody. Artwork is donated by all kinds of artists from across Central Pennsylvania and beyond. Because we are a nonprofit, every purchase directly supports our community programs like youth summer camps, adult art classes, programs for school inservice days, and local art shows.

Fall Pop-Ups Start the week of Sept 10

Instructor Nicole Packard will guide you through an evening of relaxation and art from the comfort of your own home via Zoom! Learn techniques while creating your own version of a painting. Join her for a Pen & Ink Birch Tree pop-up (Sept 10), as well as 3 Watercolor Pop-Ups each featuring a different image/subject — Cactus (Sept 24), Flowers (October 8), and a Beach at Sunset (10/22).

We are also offering an in-person an intro to Soapstone Carving pop-up with Chris Bittner (10/11). Students will be introduced to soapstone as an easy-to-carve artistic material. We will learn about soapstone’s origins, uses and properties, proper use of tools and safety practices. During the class, each student will use rasps and sandpaper to carve and polish one or two small pieces that may be pendants or small sculptures. Students will keep their pieces and take home a new artistic skill.

September & October

Kish Bank Expect More Store!

The 12 photos to be featured at Kish Bank in September and October are the winners of the first State College Photo Club Youth Showcase. All the winners are students at State College Area High School.

These photos were submitted to the national Photographic Society of America (PSA) Youth Showcase. 45% of the photos submitted to PSA were accepted into the 2021 Youth Showcase. The accepted photos will be shown at the 2021 PSA Photo Festival to be held in Rapid City, South Dakota, Oct. 4–10, 2021.

For a first-time entry into the PSA showcase, State College did well and beat the odds. Seven of the 12 winners’ photos were accepted. Three of the photos received awards:

Mira Johns received 2nd place in the “Color Choice” category for digital images for her photo To Dust You Shall Return

Ivy Macalus received 2nd place in the “People or Animals” category for printed images for her photo Reflection

Anastasia Figart received 3rd place in the “Color Choice” category for printed images for her photo Tiny Traveler

Other photos accepted into the PSA Youth Showcase were:

Business Professional by James Dobson in the “People or Animals” category for digital images

Disintegration by Yingning Cui in the “Color Choice” category for digital images

Waffle by Samuel Bestwick in the “Monochromatic Choice” category for digital images

Her Ivy by Calie Forsythe in the “Monochromatic Choice” category for printed images

We are grateful to Danielle Crowe, art teacher and curriculum coordinator, State College Area School District, for her involvement in encouraging her students to participate in the State College Photo Club Youth Showcase. We are also grateful to John McQueary of State College Framing Company for his support for framing the high school photos.

Sponsored by the State College Photo Club — a group of photography enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. We use all manner of cameras, from point and shoots, to iPhones, to digital SLRs, to large format cameras. Our skill levels range from beginner to very experienced, and everything in between.
