Job Title: Executive Director, Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania

Reports to: Board of Directors

Job Purpose:

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives, while motivating a diverse staff. The Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Art Alliance’s staff, programs, and expansion according to its Strategic Plan and directives from the Board. The Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania is a non-profit organization located in Lemont, PA with the purpose of promoting the visual arts through education, exhibitions and outreach.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  1. Assures that the Art Alliance has a long-range strategy that achieves its mission and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
  2. Provides leadership in developing programs, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carries out plans and policies authorized by the Board.
  3. Promotes active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work.
  4. Maintains official records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  5. Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field, as well as in the local environment that would impact the organization’s work.
  6. Ensures effective systems to track scaling progress and regularly evaluate program components, measuring outcomes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, and other stakeholders.
  7. Works with staff, Finance Committee, and the Board in preparing a budget and ensures that the organization operates within budget guidelines.
  8. Develops and implements processes to build and maintain membership and donors in order to secure financial support.
  9. Develops and implements cost accounting policies and operational policies and procedures.
  10. Develops instructional classes and secures instructors that attract students and utilizes available classroom space.

Communications

  1. Ensures that the Board of Directors is kept fully informed of the health of the organization and factors influencing it.
  2. Organizes the Annual Membership meeting in collaboration with the Board of Directors, and reports on the health of the organization.
  3. Establishes and maintains sound working relationships with community groups, organizations and the general public.
  4. Ensures that all communications are accurate, up-to-date and relevant, using all media to its fullest advantage.

Staff and Volunteer Supervision

  1. Retains qualified staff by providing career coaching, mentoring and a working environment that encourages professional growth.
  2. Ensures that job descriptions are developed and that regular job performance evaluations are held.
  3. Fosters volunteers so that they know they are valued and essential to the health of the organization.
  4. Works with the Board to assure that Committees and Chair positions are filled, supervised and informed of their responsibilities.
  5. Serves as ex-officio member of designated Board Committees.

Fundraising (regular and capital campaign)

  1. Pursues and submits proposals for grants for which the Art Alliance may qualify.
  2. Develops and maintains processes for tracking gifts, providing recognition, communicating with donors, patrons and benefactors and reporting results.
  3. Effectively communicates needs and vision of Art Alliance to all stakeholders.
  4. Works with campaign council to develop an anticipated capital campaign.
  5. Is actively involved in all fund raising and involves board and volunteers in campaign solicitations.

Qualifications

  1. Experience working with a non-profit organization, art center, or comparable business and applying for appropriate grants.
  2. Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data driven program evaluation.
  3. Experience in standard office software applications.
  4. Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high performance volunteers, set and achieve strategic objectives and manage a budget.
  5. Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
  7. Action oriented, adaptable, organized and innovative.
  8. Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  9. Is passionate about the arts, mission driven and self directed.
  10. Four-year degree or equivalent in a related field preferred.
  11. Experience working with or for a Board of Directors, a non-profit organization and/or capital campaign.

Working Hours and Environment

This is a salaried position that allows the employee to perform their duties and responsibilities according to the needs of the organization. S/He may work from home when appropriate as well as maintaining set office hours. Travel, evening and weekend work will occasionally be required.
