About SQUARE and squares
In a time when we as artists are trying to make sense of our new and changing circumstances, the Art Alliance Board and leaders are asking for your help. Our exhibition schedule, our youth art plans, and our adult art classes have all been dramatically altered. The financial impact of these cancelations and postponements has been significant.
While we have found it necessary to postpone the July SQUARE 2020, we are asking our members and friends to continue this important fundraising opportunity by making “SQUARE” art.
Many artists have told us that they have found the making of these small works helpful to their larger paintings, drawings, prints, reliefs, photos and collages. The 6”x6″ format allows experimentation and quicker investigation of ideas.
This show encourages both playful and bold works. In a fun format, we have brought together quality works at a price ($25.00) that is affordable to all. While being lighthearted, SQUARE has been important to our balance sheet.
Our three previous SQUARE shows have been greatly complemented by student art from regional schools. The abrupt school cancellations negated that contribution for 2020. This year works by our members and friends will be our primary source of art. Please consider making some SQUARE art in your favorite format and media!
You may wish to consider making a series of works that can be purchased individually or as a group. Quality works will keep our event one that represents the strength of our organization. See examples included here from previous shows serves as a reminder of the quality and diversity that this event has sparked.

Eric Markievich’s Show at the BAM
“Recycled Illusions on the Path to Singularity” — artist Eric Markievich
This body of work is inspired by contemplations on cycles of life, the interplay of spiritual and material realms, and the rise and fall of the machines. All portrayed in a fun parody like manner, of course. Perhaps a Sci-Fi show of sorts, however, by all means deep philosophical and existential questions abound.
We still have our recycled show — right here, online!
