Community Art Supply Swap

Community Art Supply Swap Guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions:

Thank you for your interest in the Community Art Supply Swap at the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania.  We ask that you adhere to the following guidelines to help you decide what would be appropriate to share.

Important Note: This is a two day event meant to help our creative community share their extra art supplies with each other, and is not an open donation for large scale equipment or materials.  If you are interested in making a larger donation, or a donation outside of these two days, please contact the Art Alliance Office to make arrangements.

Guidelines:

  • Please share only usable art supplies that are in good condition.
  • All donated supplies will be inspected upon arrival to make sure they will be appropriate to share.
  • Do not bring hazardous or dangerous items. (if you’re not sure, please don’t share them at the swap)
  • Please do not bring food-related items (baking supplies, etc.)
  • Please do not bring used cosmetic items (face paint, nail polish, makeup, etc)
  • Please only take home supplies you plan to use.
  • Generally, think basic art supplies: things like paints (acrylic, watercolor, oils, etc.) palettes, brushes, pencils, pastels, crayons, markers, paper, or canvas.
  • Fiber arts supplies – fabric, yarn, embroidery supplies, knitting and crochet needles, sewing patterns, felting, cross-stitch, etc.
  • Jewelry/Beading supplies
  • Fly-tying materials
  • Clay/Sculpting supplies – polymer clay, air dry clay, sculpting tools, etc.
  • Small-scale hand-tools – basic tools that must be in good working order.
  • Small-scale wood or project materials
  • Stained-glass and fused glass supplies
  • General Craft Supplies – popsicle sticks, felt, glue, glitter, etc.

FAQs:

    •  Do I have to be a member of the Art Alliance?   No, everybody is welcome.

    •  Do I have to pay to take home items?  No, all items are to be exchanged free of charge.

    •  Do I have to donate items to take art supplies home?  No, you are free to stop in and take any supplies you plan to use.

    • What happens to donated items that aren’t taken after the event is over?  Everything will find a home.  If somebody hasn’t taken a supply, we will first determine if the Art Alliance can use it for one of their programs.  Next, we will work with other community art programs to see if they would be able to use them.  The goal is to make sure everything gets used.
