On July 19, 2024, I left Bellefonte, PA on my 2018 Yamaha Xmax Scooter to ride to meet my sister in central West Virginia for a week of tourism and riding. Although I ride around 5,000 miles each year, my excursions are usually around central PA and never overnight. This would be the farthest I had ever ridden—pushing me to MY Outer Limits as a rider! My friend and frequent riding companion, James, rode halfway down with me, but I finished the 357 mile ride on my own. After a week of tourism in “Almost Heaven, West Virginia”, I returned home adding over 1,000 miles to my odometer for this trip.
I decided, during the long trip home, to make this Outer Limits Project to celebrate my ride! Inspired by Stacie Bird, who always has a kinetic element in her Recycled Show Projects, (See this year’s The Queen of Outer Space with moving lights) I came up with the idea of the moving backdrop to show a variety of sights from my travel photos. My husband, John Hruschka, was willing to use his scrap lumber pile, ingenuity, cardboard wrapping paper tubes and other basement workshop finds to construct the contraption. Thank you John!
All the images are from my photos except for the raccoon. The night I arrived in West Virginia, I forgot I had a banana in my glove box. The next morning, my scooter seat was covered in raccoon paw prints as the critter had tried in vain to get to the banana!
