About the Artist

Creating images and stories about them was a significant component of my childhood and has been integral to my growth and development throughout my life.

I completed my public education in the Mifflin County School District in 1968. In May of 1969, I enlisted in the United States Coast Guard for four years. During that time, my world view  expanded significantly as my assignments took me from basic training in Cape May, NJ, to patrolling the North Atlantic, and ultimately to serving on search-and-rescue missions on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

After my service, I earned a bachelor of arts degree in Art at Penn State with an emphasis on drawing and painting, and then earned certification as an art teacher in the College of Education. After graduating in the spring of 1978, I began my 35-year career as an art teacher in Mifflin County schools. During my tenure, I ultimately taught at every academic level from kindergarten to 12th grade.

I have been fortunate to live in State College since 1973 with my wife Kathleen, and to raise our children Emily and Jake here. The arts abound in this university community, and they are highly accessible—a huge plus for a family and an artist!

My show will cover many years of my work. Although I have experience in varied mediums, this show will consist entirely of paintings. I consider my approach to painting to be eclectic because my styles range from realism to abstraction. My hope is that my own unique approach is what distinguishes my work.
